One character, that I find to be very common in the Christian community is character of “wanting to receive what we cannot or don’t give”. Everyone moves around with a sense of entitlement to spiritual things and sureness, that since I am born again; THIS OR THAT BELONGS TO ME.
Galatians 6:7 shows us a profound biblical truth. It says:
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
In other words, we are not really qualified for anything that we have not in one way or the other sowed or sowed into.
Most times, the above text is viewed this way We do good, good comes back to us; we do bad, evil comes back to us.
That’s not a wrong perspective, but it’s not a wholistic view. There is more to that scripture.
Let me show you something quickly. Proverbs 18:24 says:
He who wants friends must be friendly.
The above verse tells us that, To have friends, you first have to be a friend. Secondly, Friendliness isn’t just received; it’s a quality you must demonstrate to attract and keep friends.
Observe closely, you will see Galatians 6:7 in Proverbs 18:24. We can say it this way: God is not mocked, If you sow friendship, you will reap friends. Everything you put out comes back to you.
Now let’s connect this principle to why your prayers are not answered.
YOU CANNOT RECEIVE WHAT YOU HAVE NOT SOWED. Example: You cannot receive salvation (eternal life) without giving your Mortal Life.
YOU CANNOT DEMAND MERCY WHILE WITHHOLDING IT.
Note this: Unforgiveness cancels authority in the place of prayer. I will teach on this in-depthly some other day, but for today: I’ll keep it short.
The parable for the unmerciful servant in Matthew 18:21-35 shows a Man who was forgiven all his debts by his MASTER, But He who was forgiven refused to forgiven his fellow SERVANT who was owing him.
See how Jesus ends that parable:
“Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.
Here’s the part I want you to not forget:
“This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”
Unforgiveness can stop your prayers from getting answered.
Let me push further a little to say: If you don’t respect people, Most times, God will also not hear your prayers. You can’t devalue people and treat people like they are nothing and expect God to all about your business.
I close with this: Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
Luke 6:38 NIV.
GIVE FIRST, and then, IT SHALL BE GIVEN BACK TO YOU.
Here’s a general principle: Give what you want to get. You want God to speak to you, Speak to God first. You want people to love you, Love people first. You want Money, Give Money first. You want Power, Empower people first etc.
This is one of the greatest secret to receiving blessings in this kingdom. Hallelujah!
